What are angels? - Next Dates >>

"Come to the edge,”He said.
They said: “We are afraid.”
”Come to the edge,”He said.
They came.
He pushed them,
And they flew..."

Guillaume Apollinaire

Angels are a phenomenon which transcends the confines of religion, and references to powerful beings of light communicating with humans on behalf of a deity are found not only in Christianity, but also in Judaism, Islam and Hinduism and other spiritual and religious systems.

The most common image people have of an angel is a tall being with wings and a halo, and those who believe in them think of them as guardians and helpers from the realms of heaven. The word ‘angel’ is derived from the Greek word ‘angelos’, which means ‘messenger’, and angels are intermediaries between humankind and the divine source (God/Goddess/the Universe/the Mystery – whichever of the many names for the energetic source of life we choose). Some people believe angels are simply a part or projection of the human mind, or are a form of the ‘higher self’, rather than autonomous beings from another plane of existence. Ultimately, though, they are a manifestation of the purest divine energy – whether that is created by a deity or by the human psyche: they are helpers and guides on the path, making known to us information, support and love we may otherwise never access.

What do they look like?
How do they communicate with us?

Through our experiences we have found that angels appear in whatever form will be most comfortable or appropriate for the person they have a connection to. This can range from the traditional image to balls or spots of light, a sudden thought bringing comfort or illumination, or whispered words accompanied by a feeling of being surrounded with unconditional love.

We have also found that people have more than one angel working with them, often many more, and that these beings can be a constant presence in our lives or make themselves known only at specific times to help and guide us through a particular issue or experience.

What effect will angels have on my life?

Angels offer us help, support and guidance, if we choose to request, and accept, it. Angels are working with us in every area of our lives, from self-esteem to career to spiritual path work and physical health. Whatever we want to work on, there are angels waiting to help.

Angelic contact will always be loving and supportive, but that is not to say all angelic experiences will be of the ‘fluffy’ variety. If you ask for the help of the angels you must be sure that you truly want the current situation to change and that you are ready for this. Angels will work for your highest good, and sometimes our own limited perception or our preconceptions of what we need make us unprepared for the changes that spiritual growth may bring. Change for the greater good may mean removing you from situations that are harmful (such as a job or a relationship), and while this will always be movement in a positive direction, this sort of growth can be uncomfortable, and even painful, at times.

How do I start to work with the angels?

We tend to distinguish between two different ways of working with angelic energy, devotional work and ritual work.

Devotional work is a gentle, gradual approach to inviting angelic energy into your life, but can still bring profound and empowering change, and we recommend doing some devotional work over a period of time before beginning to work ritually with angelic energy.

Bringing the angels closer to you & perhaps establishing some initial contact is very simple and can be achieved by simply making a conscious choice to invite them into your life and to be more aware of their presence. Having images of them or things associated with them around you and your home will help. You may want to light a candle (white is always a good colour to use) or burn some incense (jasmine & frankincense are good choices) and spend some time focussing on your wish to connect with your angels (you might want to affirm this to them out loud). Starting a dialogue with them either verbally or through writing is a very powerful way of inviting communication: either speak to them and allow yourself some quiet time and space to receive their replies, or perhaps begin an angelic diary, where you can write your own questions and thoughts, and then write down whatever else comes to your mind immediately afterwards. (This is written channelling, and can be extremely effective: the trick is to simply write – don’t think about what words, images or emotions are coming to you, try not to analyse the process, just let your pen move on the paper and let the communication flow. Often, what seems random will soon turn into coherent messages, and – especially if you leave the pages for a few days and then review them – can be very enlightening. This exercise can take a few attempts, but is worth persevering with).

Angel Workshops

We offer a range of workshops, from introductory days to full weekend workshops.

A Day with the Angels is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive range of techniques for connecting and communicating with the angelic realms. On the day you will have the opportunity to practice meditation and visualisation, healing with angelic energy, written and spoken channelling, and you will also receive an angelic empowerment, which raises your energetic vibration, making it easier to connect with the angels.

We also have angel workshops focussing on specific aspects of angelic work, such as communication, manifestation and healing.

Angel Communication Day: A day spent practicing techniques for channelling information and guidance from the angelic realms. We will access deep states of connection and communion with the angels, and work with them for progress on our individual paths.
