Firewalking

Firewalking is a ritual that dates back thousands of years and has been, or is, practised in diverse cultures spanning the whole globe, from Africa to Greece. The purpose and participants vary enormously, but the potential of the firewalk to bring about the desired outcome is consistent.

The element of Fire has a powerful and transformative energy: it can seem intense and destructive, but is also comforting, life-giving and magical. Fire takes what no longer serves a purpose - the dead wood, literal and metaphorical - and uses it as fuel to create new llight, heat, movement and excitement, leaving behind fresh ground, fertilised by the ash and ready to support new growth (literal and metaphorical!)
What are you ready to bring to the fire?  And what are you ready to energise?

Oona McFarlane trained in 2004 as an Advanced Firewalk Instructor with SUNDOOR,  the international firewalking school led by Peggy Dylan, known as 'the mother of the Western firewalk movement'.  Oona has been leading firewalks regularly since her training, and has worked with hundreds of people, in groups from 2 to 250, to help them rediscover their own innate power and potential to be and do whatever they choose in life.

Firewalking is not a trick or scam, nor is it a miracle or a feat performed only by those with a special 'gift'. It is an experience of the extraordinary capability within every human being to achieve the seemingly impossible. Although it exists in many and varied forms in its different cultural and historical contexts, the firewalk is primarily a ceremony that gives us the opportunity to connect with the magical potential of the element of Fire, and the magical potential of our own spirit. Like other symbolic ceremonies, firewalking draws its power from the focus and energy that we bring to it, not from the act itself. It is a reminder of the awesome potential we each have to confront and break through our fears, to focus ourselves on a goal and to find the courage and energy to brave possible dangers and make our dreams realities. Firewalking is a metaphor for all those moments in life when we have a choice: will you follow your heart and spirit into new - and possibly dangerous – territory, in order to pursue your dreams and ideals… or will you shrink back from your possible futures and play it safe? In the moment of choosing to walk on fire, we give ourselves an opportunity to affirm our trust in our own power and magic, to demonstrate our ability to use our fear for transformation, and to rekindle our passion for our visions of what could be.

Occasionally, the workshop may be themed around a specific festival (such as Beltane, a festival of fertility and creativity, or Samhain (Halloween), a fire festival celebrating the turn of the Celtic Year), explore or celebrate a particular aspect of Fire energy, or build on the personal development work of a longer workshop.

What could the magic of fire do for you?

An evening Firewalk workshop provides the opportunity to release outworn patterns and emotions and to move with purpose towards a future of our own choosing.  Participants will use the lighting of the fire as a first step in clarifying their purpose in coming to firewalk, we will work on affirming and bringing into clear focus the dreams and goals we are walking towards, and we will break through outdated or destructive beliefs that may have been holding us back before rejoining the fire to experience the incredible energy rush of that symbolic first step towards your future - over hot coals!

What participants have said:

"I want to thankyou for the magnificent experience on Saturday evening’s Firewalk. I have never in my life felt so much energy, I am well versed in NLP / Life Coaching / EFT Perfomance coaching, however even with this knowledge I can honestly say that what happened to me on Saturday night blew away the Self Limiting Belief that I couldn’t actually achieve my Goals and I didn’t deserve success.
More than anything else I wanted to ignite the burning desire to work with people and the Firewalk did exactly that.
Oona – Heartfelt thanks and blessings ."
