I have been a Complementary Therapist for over 6 years now and had the luxury of studying Reflexology at degree level. This meant I had three years to learn, dig, delve, test, try out and generally be amazed by a therapy I have grown to love. I believe that all therapists should be well taught and that all qualified therapists should develop and offer advice and assistance to new and student therapists. Not content with Reflexology I embarked on over 24 other training courses while at Uni and each one taught me something valuable. I only carry out therapies that I believe in, am passionate about and have become well practiced in and this can be seen in the enthusiasm and professionalism that I offer to my clients. (At least so I am told) Apart from my passion for feet I have a real passion for people and love to meet and talk to new people whether through therapies or not. I love nothing more than meeting new people and spending time listening and learning from them. I give talks on Foot Reading and one of the greatest gifts I received after one such talk was an old pineapple slicer – I value it and it reminds me that we have the power to change each other through our interactions. (come to a talk to find out why!) After graduating from Edinburgh Napier University with a BSc Complementary Therapies (with Distinction) I carried out a small scale research programme under the supervision of Dr Christine Donnelly. This was to investigate 'The Future of CAM Education in Scotland' and I had a ball doing it (and thank you to all the therapists who helped, there were over 400 in the end!). This spurred me on to do more research and so I killed two birds with one stone (no actual birds were harmed) and completed my PgDip in Education (TQFE) at Stirling University. However after submitting my research proposal I decided to transfer to a Masters in Psychology and Mental Health and having been accepted have deferred entry till September 2010. I did use my teacher training well though and taught on the Complementary Therapy programme at Jewel & Esk College for 18 months; while there developing three modules and authoring a Reflexology distance learning module for the SQA. I am developing reflexology and foot reading training and am delivering courses at Tir na nOg and beyond. Having started my first book I aim to have it published this year so look out for it on a bookshelf near you!
